U.S. Department of Energy - Presidential Permit

Originally a Presidential Permit was granted to Bangor Hydro-Electric Company in 1996 authorizing construction, operation, maintenance and connection of facilities for the transmission of electric energy between the United States and Canada.

In September of 2003, Bangor Hydro-Electric Company submitted a Presidential Permit Modification. The links below provide the Presidential Permit Application submitted to the Department of Energy.

The Department of Energy completed an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Public and agency comments were received on a draft EIS, then the final was published in the fall. Maine Department of Environmental Protection- Site Location of Development, Natural Resources Protection Act & Federal 401 Water Quality Certification

Bangor Hydro filed an application with the DEP in May 2005, and the Department granted the permits on October 27, 2005.

MPUC - Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity

Bangor Hydro-Electric Company has received the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity from the MPUC. Much of the material filed in relation to the NRI proceeding (docket number 2004-771) can be found at the PUC website at: www.maine.gov/mpuc.

Municipal Permits

BHE received local permits from nine municipalities.

Bangor Hydro-Electric Company had all necessary permits for the project in hand on January 20, 2006.
