Handling Emergency Situations

Electrical Fires

1. When possible unplug the appliance or equipment and turn off the circuit breaker or main circuit breaker for the home.

2. If the fire is small and contained, attempt to use a properly rated fire extinguisher (class "c") which is designed for electrical fires. Baking soda is good for smothering fire. Never, ever use water on an electrical fire. If the fire is not small and contained, have all occupants leave the building immediately.

3. Call your local emergency number or 911 for help. Be sure to provide your name address and inform them it's an electrical fire.

When an Automobile is touching a utility line...

1.Remain inside the vehicle and wait for rescue workers to assist.

2. If fire, smoke or other endangerment is present, jump clear without touching the vehicle and the ground at the same time, and shuffle your feet away from the scene.

3. Remain at a safe distance from hazard.
