Brief description of products or services:

The Eastern Maine Funders' Energy Initiative, established in 2006, has helped more than 900 families in Eastern Maine and help continues to reach families in Washington, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo Counties. More than $1,000,000 has been distributed through local CAP agencies providing fuel assistance, furnace cleanings, health and safety repairs and weatherization projects. This year the energy initiative includes a small grant fund: Neighbors Helping Neighbors. The grants are available to collaborations of community organizations wishing to mobilize local resources to meet the identified needs within that community. Funding may be used for such things as winterizations, warming centers, neighborhood watch groups or food baskets: community based projects for the greatest community impact.

Description: The United Way of Eastern Maine is pleased to announce a small grant fund available to Eastern Maine Communities engaged in collaborative efforts to care for and improve the capacity of local citizens most in jeopardy from high heating costs for the winter of 2008-2009.
